Paintings and Mixed Media on Canvas, Wood and Other Surfaces

Painting has always been a form of free expression for me, much like the improvisation found in jazz music. I begin most of my paintings without a concrete plan. They start with a feeling or mood, then a color palette, bringing the fruition of an idea. I feel that being self taught has kept me free to experiment with various mediums and techniques, without being confined by their traditional uses. My art often leans toward a bold, neo-expressionist untrained style. It is heavily influenced bymy young exposure to artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Edward Gorey. These were the first artists whose work I encountered organically while growing up in the city.
