Celebrating 30 years of recycled art.
Using mostly recycled glass spice jars, and similar vessels and combining them with twisted tissue paper and clay, I have built unique functional sculptures on and off throughout the last 30 years. Each piece from the new collection, representing members of tribes from the island of Puerto Rico, and her caribbean sisters. Each sculpture, has a secret compartment or two that will store small valuable treasures for their patron.every celbratory color that makes its way in to every one of their souls is mostly recycled remnats of celebrations I”ve been too , where presents have been lovingly wrapped. to be quickly discarded once used, a metaphor for most situations in life.
From previous exhibits to word of mouth and loyal collectors, these special vessels have found their way to various corners of the globe. I am excited to share the latest incarnation in the next series ready for exhibit called Secret Tribe. It is not only a nod to my first solo art show, in 1999 at A Gathering of the Tribes Gallery in the Lower East side of Manhattan, but also a statement on the organic creative process and the nomadic culture of life as an artist and all that we store and carry as humans.
